Innotrans Clean Nose

Description

Regular passengers on the Deutsche Bahn know just how rare it is to find an ICE train with a bug-free nose. Somehow, even after visiting the washing rack, the noses don't get clean. Apparently, this train, the latest Siemens Valaro high speed EMU was delivered to the fair grounds under wraps to keep its paint spotless.

Interesting segue to this is that just a couple of weeks after Innotrans, the Eurostar company chose to order Siemens Valaros for future Eurostar service beyond Paris and Brussels. In less than two years, it'll be possible to board one of these in Frankfurt and disembark in London! Is it possible that the Eurostar managers saw this clean nose and clenched the deal at Innotrans? Who knows?

Your last paragraph reminds me: You probably saw the Velaro mock-up with the blue stripe. Apparently, that was supposed to be a mock-up for the new Eurostar trains, but contract negotiations weren't done yet by the time Innotrans came around, so Siemens quickly put different paint on it and had it there as a generic example. I wish I had a good picture of that mock-up train…
