Opulent Pulpit

This pulpit, front and center in the chancel, was rebuilt to the original George Bähr designs, right down to the coloring and the gold leaf. It was found however, that the minister's sermons could not be heard throughout the church due to the dearth of walls directly behind or above him to reflect the sound of his voice. Therefore, during the church's early days, a second pulpit was retrofitted to a column beside the chancel that had the prerequisite reflective surfaces for acoustic amplification.

When the church got rebuilt, however, the retrofitted pulpit was not reconstructed. Sermons again take place from the pulpit originally designed by the architect, and modern condenser microphones ensure that even the least of these sitting in the nosebleed pews of the 5th gallery can hear every blessed word floating through their subconscious as they catch up on sleep lost the night before at the tavern.
